PRESERVING HISTORY
JUST GOT A LITTLE EASIER

The David Bohnett Art Preservation Pod

The pod will be on the Foundation grounds.

$10,000 has been awarded to Tom of Finland Foundation from the David Bohnett Foundation (DBF).

We applied for this grant to enable us to have a climate controlled, fire proof and weather resistant art storage container at our headquarters, TOM House, here in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles.

The “David Bohnett Art Preservation Pod” will reduce our need for off-site storage facilities and allow much better access to our extensive collections. We will be able to catalog and store new acquisitions more easily, improve the ability to rotate exhibitions at TOM House and give visiting curators a more friendly, “hands on” experience. Most importantly, the “Bohnett Pod” gives more artists a secure repository for the preservation of their work.

We are very grateful and thank David Bohnett and Michael Fleming, executive director, DBF, for their insightful acknowledgement of our mission that furthers the protection, preservation and promotion of our community’s heritage and cultural arts.

Happy Birthday, TOM!
MAY 8

Touko is the small child seated by his father.

Tom of Finland’s real name is Touko – because he was born on May 8, 1920, on the south coast of Finland, and May in Finnish is “Toukokuu”.

His homeland had been independent for just three years when Touko was born, and outside its few cities the country was still rough and wild. The men who worked in the fields and woods, the farmers and loggers, were true frontiersmen, every bit as rough and wild as the countryside.
