Tips of the Hat and Odds & Ends:

Steven and
S. R. Sharp

Journalist Steven Bereznai, author of Queeroes and Second Person Queer, came to discover the history and beauty of the Foundation.

Steven is a Toronto writer. He is a former editor-in-chief and also spent 10 years at CBC Newsworld’s national newsroom.

If you plan on spending 20 minutes at TOM House you’ll probably end up being here for a couple of hours…

Sharp and Miss Barbie-Q on the porch of TOM House.

Miss Barbie-Q dropped by the TOM House August 31 for a kiki!

The one and only will be the new host for The Eagle LA for Thursday nights. Naturally she thought about doing a monthly night featuring Tom of Finland. Some exciting things were discussed so stay tuned for the details!

Miss Barbie-Q arrives at The Eagle on Sept. 20 and will be there every Thursday night. Also, be sure to check her out in INSTALL: WeHo an exciting new art exhibit–popping up in WeHo only on Sept. 16!

On July 28th, 2012, Andrés Rigal & Luke Nero presented Rasputin: Russian Love Machine’s homage to TOM and his Foundation.

It was hosted by Miguel Angel Reyes, SOLD OUT Clothing and ToFF’s VP, S. R. Sharp, with Josef Jasso, go-gos Johnathan Myers & Curtis Jackson.and DJs Josh Peace and Aaron Elvis.

Enormous thanks to hosts Rich Yap and Jake Prieto, Carrington Galen and Gary Duran and David Kahauolopua & Keith Webster and all the dedicated models.

See some of the fun on TOM's Blog.

The sun was shining on August 25, and so were the artists attending Rough Trade's Art Lot Sale.

The Foundation thanks Rough Trade for giving artists this opportunity.

And thanks to Miguel Angel Reyes for the photos.

on display.

Tom of Finland had a exhibition on the Ultimate Gay Summer Cruise on the 21st of July, 2012.

Al & Wiki Wickman provided a Tom of Finland mini-exhibition with a Sailorboy theme including beautiful reproductions and the actual sailor uniform Tom of Finland himself used to enjoy wearing!

A limited amount of merchandise from Tom of Finland Foundation was offered for sale as well as membership information on the upcoming Tom of Finland Seura.

The cruise was extra amazing thanks to Jari and his partner Jac who took care of the TOM part.

Thanks to the Bears that made this a great experience with really good feedback from people!

NEW BOOK FROM BRUNO GMÜNDER
Tom of Finland:
Life and Work of a Gay Hero

TOM OF FINLAND (Finnish, 1920 – 1991),
Untitled (detail), 1988, Graphite on paper,
ToFF #88.10, © 1988 Tom of Finland Foundation

The American launch of the new anthology,
Tom of Finland: Life and Work of a Gay Hero,
will take place at the
West Hollywood – Los Angeles Erotic Art Fair Weekend.

The book chronicles Tom’s life with never-before seen
photographs from his childhood and features some
of Tom’s rare works and quite a few images
long-believed to be missing or lost.

Patrons may purchase a copy and the authors,
F.Valentine Hooven, III, Durk Dehner and S.R. Sharp,
will be there both days to discuss
and personally autograph the book.

This volume brings to life Tom of Finland
—the man, the artist, the icon.

Tom of Finland has been an incredible inspiration to my work
and within the Gay community, as well. —Mike Kelley, 1985
