The "Daddy's Day" parking lot party for TOM is celebrated with artists showing their work, bawdy contests and prizes, a silent auction, food and drink, and plenty of TOM's Men! All to benefit the Foundation that Tom cofounded in 1984.

Artists showing at TOM's Bar are Rick Castro, Ruben Esparza, Michael Kirwan, Chad Pitman and Hector Silva.

Festivities are ignited by rockin' DJs, special guests, go-go boys and include a presentation of Tom of Finland tableaux vivant and a drawing workshop coordinated by Miguel Angel Reyes.

"Tom asked me not to have a funeral but to have a party - like a scene from his artwork - people coming together and having a hell of a good time. We created a celebration - the first 'TOM's Bar' in 1992 - which has become a Tom of Finland Foundation annual event honoring Tom."

-Durk Dehner, president and cofounder, ToFF

TOM's Bar 2014 is presented by Los Angeles Band of Brothers and marks the 21st anniversary of Tom of Finland events sponsored by Faultline.

The Posters: UNTITLED, 1963/2015

In this graphite drawing, originally published in Bob Mizer’s Physique Pictorial in 1969, Tom of Finland presents us with two handsome men dressed in motorcycle garb, complete with their signature black boots. They stand in front of an enticing sign asking “Who Will be Mr. Universe Next Year?” their gaze cast downwards, eyeing the barbell on the ground. The compelling drawing captures a moment of anticipation, conveying the message that anyone can become Mr. Universe, they just have to pick up that weight.

Tom of Finland, born Touko Laaksonen in Finland in 1920, is considered to be one of the most iconic artists of all time. Known primarily for what he referred to as his “dirty drawings,” he cofounded Tom of Finland Foundation in 1984 with the mission to safeguard and document Tom’s legacy and that of fellow artists.

The Posters are Athena Currey and Adrian Rosenfeld and have more than fifteen years of experience working with artists, curators and collectors. ThePosters.co makes art accessible by publishing affordable, museum-quality prints that are only available for a short time.

MALE MUSE
"Whenever I was depressed or disgusted, I would feel him, that spirit inside, urging me back to living, back to drawing, I believe there is a lot to the world that can’t be seen or touched, and if you turn away from that — especially if you are an artist — you are avoiding an important part of life, maybe the very heart of it.” — Tom of Finland
